This position is located at the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB). PTAB conducts America Invents Act (AIA) trials, including inter partes, post-grant, and covered business method patent reviews and derivation proceedings, hears appeals from adverse examiner decisions in patent applications and reexamination proceedings, and renders decisions in interferences. The incumbent of this position reports to the Chief Clerk of the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
Duties
The physical worksite for this position is located in Alexandria, Virginia.This position is telework eligible per agency and business unit discretion/policy.

Paralegal Specialist Series, 0950
Specialized Experienceis experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-12.
Specialized experience for this position includes:
Experience planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for the completion of work.
Experience identifying ways to improve production or increasing the quality of the work being completed by subordinates.
Experience drafting notices or decisions sent to affected parties regarding the outcome of proceedings and/or inquiries.
Experience communicating with higher level management on a variety of unique issues where policy does not exist, recommending actions to address needs and/or issues.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education cannot be substituted for specialized experience at this grade level.
