The position is located in the Naytahwaush IHS Clinic Business Office (BO), located in Naytahwaush, MN. The incumbent provides registration and eligibility services which are the key point of interaction with patients to obtain and process demographic and insurance information for Alternate Resources, Purchased/Referred Care (PRC), and private/commercial insurance. The position will also perform scheduling duties.
Duties
Interviews outpatients to obtain pertinent current patient registration demographic information and enters/maintains in RPMS Patient Registration system.
Obtains, verifies, and sequences insurance information for billing and maximum reimbursement from all alternate resources.
Determines eligibility status of patients according to IHS policy/guidelines
Maintains confidentiality of medical record information in accordance with the Privacy Act of 1974, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and IHS policies and procedures.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
Specialized Experience Defined: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
GS-04: One (1) year of general experience or two (2) years above high school.
GS-05: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level and/or 4 years above high school.
Examples of Specialized Experience: GS-05: Assemble patient records according to prescribed formats, determine patients' eligibility for treatment, schedule appointments or patients with other medical services, answer questions regarding routine procedures, operate personal computers, data processing equipment, and/or office support software for word processing, data entry, or data retrieval.
GS-06: One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level.
Examples of Specialized Experience: GS-06: Receive and direct patients and visitors; answering routine inquiries; and making appropriate referral of questions concerning patients' condition, use and apply medical terminology, determine eligibility requirements for Medicare; Medicaid, Veterans' Health, and Vocational Rehabilitation, enforce and work with laws and regulations related to the confidentiality of medical records and the release of information from medical records, computerized data entry and information systems.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
