Incumbent is a Pipefitter, WG-4204-10, in Facilities Management Service, Engineering section, at the North Florida/South Georgia Veterans Health System. The primary purpose of this position is to maintain the plumbing systems throughout the facilities. These systems include: Plumbing elements such as pipes, pipe systems, steam traps, steam water stills, condensate pumps, various steam and plumbing equipment, fire sprinkler systems, medical gas systems, boiler and supply line and waste systems.

Duties

Duties include but are not limited to: Troubleshoot and repair steam heating and plumbing equipment such as steam traps, steam water stills, condensate pumps, and various steam and plumbing equipment. Troubleshoot and repair fire sprinkler systems, medical gas systems, boiler and supply lines, air systems, radiant panel systems, and waste systems. Read and interpret instruction manuals, blueprints. Repair and install dietetic and canteen equipment such as dishwashers. Maintain his or her tools and equipment. Troubleshoot steam heating and plumbing equipment such as steam traps, steam water stills, condensate pumps, various steam and plumbing equipment and fire sprinkler systems. Proficient in arc welding and must be able to weld high pressure steam lines, condensate lines, and stainless steel and must be able to use inert gas in brazing and silver soldering, sweating copper tubing, flaring, and connecting tubing. Utilize building plans, diagrams, engineering drawings, and technical manuals to complete work assignments. Repair and install equipment for laboratory, dental, research, medical media and similar services. Practice good workmanship and keep their work place clean. Physical Requirements: The incumbent works from ladders, scaffolding, and hydraulic work platforms. Work is often performed in spaces that are cramped, dirty, and hard to reach. The work involves crouching, stretching, standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing, and working in uncomfortable positions and environments. The incumbent frequently lifts or carries tools, equipment, ladders, scaffolding, parts, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally exceeding 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed inside, outside, and in confined spaces. The incumbent is subject to burns from steam lines, gas burning equipment, welding torches, and other heat producing devices. Work can be extremely dirty and wet as work consist of working with waste water, sewage, and other waste products. The incumbent is required to wear appropriate personal protective equipment as necessary to accomplish assigned tasks in a safe manner.
