You will serve as a WOOD WORKER in the SUPPLY DEPARTMENT (Code 500), MATERIAL DIVISION (Code 530), Traffic Branch (Code 532), of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY.

Duties

You will be responsible for providing the material handling equipment and operators required for the handling and movement of supply items. You will be responsible for performing the packing, packaging, preservation, and related inspection functions associated with the shipping of supply items. You will be responsible for constructing and repairing wooden containers of various sizes and types. You will be responsible for blocking and bracing all outbound explosive shipments and the inspection of inbound explosive shipments slated for the organization. You will be responsible for planning and laying out work selecting tools, devices and machines to be used. You will be responsible for measuring and cutting lumber for standard, skidded, trussed, or sheathed containers.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • The incumbent must be able to pass the 40-hour Naval Motor Vehicle and Railcar Inspection Certification course and maintain the certification every two years.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift certification.
  • Certain incentives (such as Recruitment or Relocation) may be authorized to eligible selectees. A relocation incentive is generally a single payment intended to offset some of the relocation costs experienced by the selectee.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: THE ABILITY TO INSPECT Experience planning and laying out work selecting tools, devices, and machines to be used; and measures and cuts lumber for standard, nonstandard, skidded, trussed, or sheathed containers; as well as selecting tools, devices, and machines to be used. Experience measuring and cutting lumber to the appropriate sizes for carrying out planned construction of containers and supports, and planning construction methods and techniques based on consideration of shipping, storage, and handling. Experience building and constructing a wide variety of wooden storage and shipping items according to the packing codes. Experience assembling boxes, crates, platforms, and other containers by joining nails, screws, bolts, or applying metal scrapping and installing fixtures and padding to support and cushion items. Experience preserving and packing heavy, bulky, large, and hard to handle items some of which require custom fitting of packaging material and/or packaging techniques.
