This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration,Research Services. The incumbent performs work that supports access to archival holdings and physical and intellectual control over records. The work encompasses a broad range of functions which may include reference services support, assistance to researchers, pulling and refiling, monitoring, holdings maintenance, processing, description, reformatting of records, and other customer services.
Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Archives Technician, you will:
Provide reference service including reference search, re-file, interfile, copy, scan and redact information in various filing systems.
Arrange records according to established criteria and/or review records to provide input on how series of records should be arranged.
Assist Archivist with preservation and rehabilitation projects.
Assist and prepare general description work and online catalog descriptions according to NARA lifecycle standards.
Assist in accessioning and disposal of all record types under the guidance of an archivist or archives specialist.
Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
Specialized Experience for the GS-06 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-05 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Experience communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally and/or in writing. AND
Experience referencing, and/or following and applying policy and procedures to accomplish work assignments. AND
Experience performing research to identify information relevant to a work assignment.
Specialized Experience for the GS-05 grade level is defined as one year of experience at the GS-04 grade level, or equivalent, that is typically in or related to the position and which equipped the candidate with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience for this position is defined as experience:
Experience communicating with customers and responding to inquiries, verbally or in writing. AND
Experience following and referencing policy and procedures.
OR
You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.
OR
You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.
NOTE: Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable (as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F):
For the GS-06, you must have been at the GS-05level for 52 weeks.
.Advancement to positions up to GS-5: Candidates may be advanced without time restriction to positions up to GS-05 if the position to be filled is no more than two grades above the lowest grade the employee held within the preceding 52 weeks under his or her latest non-temporary competitive appointment.
