About the Position: Work is performed in the Official Mail and Distribution Center, Directorate of Human Resources (DHR); directly supports all Joint Base Lewis-McChord units, organizations, and employees.
Duties
Assists in managing the Unit Mail Programs for JBLM, Madigan Army Medical Center (MAMC) and Yakima Training Center. Conducts technical inspections of 41-unit mailrooms.
In-briefs Unit Postal Officers prior to inspecting and out-briefs Battalion Commanders, Adjutants, and Postal Officers.
Leads the work of two to three lower-graded civilian personnel and four to six military personnel engaged in processing incoming mail and outgoing personal and official mail and distribution for all assigned and tenant units of JBLM.
Trains, orients, and instructs new personnel in the performance of required tasks and procedures
Reviews subordinate's work, in progress, or upon completion, as deemed appropriate, to assess the quality and effectiveness and ensure compliance with supervisor's instructions.
Checks for propriety of endorsement and completeness of forwarding address on redirect mail from unit mail clerks.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service which includes receiving, processing, sorting, and distributing incoming and outgoing official mail from/to the United States Postal Service (USPS) to include assist the USPS with loading/unloading of mail carts from USPS vehicles; distribution from/to customers/units/activities; mail and distribution from private carriers when addressed to the Official Mail and Distribution Center; and perform related filing functions for the Official Mail and Distribution Center. This definition of generalized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-05).
