You will serve as a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DIVISION of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE. Duties

You will conduct visual inspections and operational tests to determine the need for maintenance or repair work. You will perform maintenance on electrical, plumbing, pipefitting, or mechanical systems to maintain buildings and equipment. You will weld metal parts and structures that vary in size, shape, and thickness and require multiple welding passes. You will determine tools or equipment to use in performing preventive maintenance on utility or electrical systems. You will operate tools and equipment following established safety rules and regulations to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

Requirements

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • May be required to perform shift work.
  • May be required to work overtime and/or be "called back". Work other than normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the job elements and screen out listed below. This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. Applicants who do not receive a minimum of two points on the screen-out element(s) will be found ineligible. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION. 1) Assisting with welding using oxyacetylene, electric arc and other welding techniques on various metals flat, round stock and piping, and metal fabrication using shears and metal breaks to fabricate ductwork, flashing and other job specific applications; 2) Assisting with servicing and repairing various types of mechanical equipment to include air compressors reciprocal and screw type, air dryers, pumps, motor controllers and related equipment; 3) Assisting in visual checks of boilers, heating and air conditioning systems to determine causes of defects on equipment; 4) Assisting with reading and interpreting detailed equipment blueprints, electrical schematics, drawings, and specifications for proper installation and maintenance requirements of HVAC systems.
