THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a AIRCRAFT MECHANIC SUPERVISOR, Position Description Number D0806000 and is part of the ID 124 Maintenance Squadron, National Guard. THIS POSITION IS PERMANENT. THIS POSITION IS OPEN TO ALL CURRENT ONBOARD T32 TECHNICIANS IN THE IDAHO AIR NATIONAL GUARD.

Duties

Plans the overall allocation of personnel and other resources to the organizational segments supervised to accomplish work operations which, because of their scope, volume, and complexity, must be planned on a quarterly or longer basis. Analyzes the work plans developed by subordinate supervisors for accomplishment of assigned work orders and projects and the status of work being accomplished in relation to overall schedule requirements, including unanticipated or emergency requirements. Provides higher level managers and/or supervisors information on status of work projects, budget estimates, changes in equipment, facilities, techniques, etc. Participates in planning conferences and meetings. Coordinates and directs the work of units supervised. Assigns and explains work requirements to subordinate supervisors and sets deadlines. Balances workload for subordinate work groups. Promotes economical and efficient work operations. Analyzes production, cost and personnel utilization records and makes adjustment in operations to correct problems. Prepares operating instructions and work plans to be followed by subordinate workers in accomplishing critical or emergency work projects. Spot checks work operations to assure production and quality standards are met. Coordinates work operations with other organizations and functions. Encourages employees to achieve management goals. Recommends promotion or reassignment of subordinate supervisors and reviews personnel actions prepared by them. Makes formal appraisal of supervisors' work performance and reviews employee appraisals submitted by them. Determines training needs for all levels of subordinates. Promotes and administers such programs as cost reduction, incentive awards, suggestions, and quality assurance. Ensures that regulations governing safety and housekeeping are observed. Assures that subordinate supervisors carry out such programs as labor-management and equal opportunity. Schedules leave. Ensures that position descriptions are accurate and that position management principles are followed. Assures that appropriate production reports and administrative records are maintained. Acts on personnel problems referred by subordinate supervisors. Hears and resolves grievances and ensures proper corrective action is taken. Implements safety regulatory requirements. Ensures that subordinates wear appropriate safety equipment and follow pertinent safety precautions. Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations, inspections, mobilization and command support exercises. May be required to perform such additional duties as structural firefighting, aircraft fire/crash/rescue duty, security guard, snow removal, munitions loading and handling, heavy equipment operation, maintenance of facilities and equipment, or to serve as a team member on boards to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain the appropriate Security Clearance.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must possess at least 36 months of experience in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components, and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies, and components, e.g., such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing, and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems. Experience or training, installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting, and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Must have the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, direct, and organize work assignments for lower grade personnel. Experience which required the review of work requirements and establish priorities to meet deadlines. Experience that provided knowledge of various lines of work performed by this function. Experience which demonstrates the ability to supervise or the potential to perform such duties as evidenced by the ability to communicate knowledge of general supervisory concepts, and knowledge of shop processes. Experience in adapting existing equipment and techniques to new situations.
