Duties

Supervises natural and cultural resource staff and programs. Tasks include recruiting and selecting employees, establishing and reviewing annual performance plans, assigning work and providing advice and counsel. Develop and implement short and long-range plans and supporting organizational strategies for an interdisciplinary science and resource management program. Identify strategic research needs and priorities and provide oversight for scientific research projects led by resource professionals to assure that they meet organizational mission objectives, employ sound methodology, and are conducted within management policies and law. Represent and/or support resource managers at interagency meetings, committees, and working groups to manage priority resources and issues including wildlife disease, threatened or endangered species management, climate change, and wildlife population management.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/14/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. Basic Qualifications Requirements: To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following basic qualification requirements by close of the announcement: Basic Requirements for Social Scientist, GS-0101: Have a degree in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must include academic transcripts to support your answer with your application package. - OR- Have a combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with the knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major field. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. You must include academic transcripts to support your answer with your application package. - OR- Have four years of appropriate experience that demonstrates that I have acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. Basic Requirements for Biologist, GS-0401: Have a degree in one of the following: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. You must include academic transcripts to support your answer with your application package. - OR- Have a combination of education and experience - Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. Basic Requirements for Physical Scientist, GS-1301: Have a degree in one of the following: physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics. You must include academic transcripts to support your answer with your application package. -OR- Have an appropriate combination of education and experience that includes education equivalent to one of the majors shown in A above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field. In addition to courses in the major and related fields, a typical college degree would have included courses that involved analysis, writing, critical thinking, research, etc. These courses would have provided an applicant with skills and abilities sufficient to perform progressively more responsible work in the occupation. Therefore, creditable experience should have demonstrated similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the work of the occupation. You must include academic transcripts to support your answer with your application package. -AND- In addition to the above, applicants must also possess the following: To qualify for this position at the GS-13 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: I have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the federal service, serving as a manager and an advisor to other staff in the areas of natural and cultural resources within a park or natural area. Examples of qualifying experience include but are not limited to the following: Monitoring and evaluating resource management activities and communicating with the scientific community and other external organizations on resources issues. Planning and coordinating scientific research and developing an operating budget for a resource management program. Handling resource, visitor management, and scientific issues that are sensitive or controversial because of public opinion, political interest, or significance of environmental impacts. Providing oversight to a multi-disciplinary program that may include the following: vegetative resources, physiographic resources, geological resources, land use management, ethnography, anthropology, archeology, or history. Developing and implementation of policy related to protection and conservation of park areas or similar operations. Directing program and work through direct and indirect supervision. You must include hours per week worked. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
