Duties
Monitors the workflow to ensure that all sections are meeting production timelines and redirects individual personnel throughout the day in order to prevent production delays.
Supervises daily production and reassign personnel based on priority changes.
Supervises the testing of press products according to the Production Manager's instructions.
Prepares reports regarding the results of tests, including findings and recommendations.
Ensures press/pre-press equipment is maintained properly and suggests preventative maintenance.

- Physical Effort : Duties require frequent walking and standing. The incumbent may be required to check rollers, plates, blankets, etc.
- Working Conditions: Duties are performed in a production environment where there is exposure to noise, ink mist, odors/fumes, spray powder, and paper dust from the presses.

Qualifications
To qualify for the position, you must meet the following requirements: Applicants must have experience and/or training of sufficient scope and quality to independently perform the duties typically required of a Group Chief. These duties require skill in
Applicants must meet the following Screen-Out element 1: Ability to Lead or Supervise (SCREEN OUT) to be considered for this position. These duties require skill in employee supervision, training, performance evaluation, and addressing conduct issues. Applicants must also have skill in production planning and execution, meeting deadlines, and adapting the production schedule when problems arise. These duties include: 1) Overseeing the printing operations for Press activities on a daily basis by Presspersons at the journey person level; 2) Fulfilling the Production Manager's instructions regarding job priorities, daily personnel assignments, equipment assignments, and daily division goals; 3) Assigning work to employees and explains work requirements and daily goals. Issues work according to production schedule and personnel, and ensures work meets or exceeds the quality level required; 4) Supervising the testing of press products according to the Production Manager's instructions. Prepares reports regarding the results of tests, including findings and recommendations; and 5) Coordinating work with other sections to meet production requirements.
Screen-Out element: Ability to Lead or Supervise(SCREEN OUT).
In addition to the requirements above, GPO employees competing under merit promotion procedures must meet all of the following criteria in accordance with Federal Merit Promotion Plan, GPO Instruction 615.2C (Appendix B): 1. Have completed a formal, recognized apprenticeship or GPO journeyperson training program, or possess substantially equivalent practical experience in the trade of the vacancy; AND 2. Have at least 1 year of journeyperson experience subsequent to completion of the above apprenticeship or training; AND 3. Have served a minimum of 1 year in Career or Career-Conditional appointment in the GPO. OR 4. Have served at least 1 year in an administrative or supervisory capacity related to the work of the position/ series: Group Chief
OR
1)Possess three years of responsible experience as a press operator in the printing industry equivalent, at a minimum, to the GPO journeyperson level, 2) Have two years of experience in the printing industry of a scope and quality sufficient to carry out the duties of the position - one year of which was at or comparable to the PG-12 level, AND 3) Have served a minimum of one year in a career or career-conditional appointment in GPO.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
