The position is engaged in the study, inventory, monitoring, restoration, and management of a broad range of natural resources. Examples of program areas may include, but are not limited to, vegetation, wildlife, fisheries, exotic and pest species, sensitive species, and associated ecological components such as air, water, and soil.
Duties
Perform data collection using advanced technology such as electronic data collectors when appropriate.
Conduct analysis of complex data.
Prepare management and scientific reports regarding the results of protection, mitigation, reintroduction, inventory, monitoring, and research activities.
Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public in order to encourage and facilitate cooperative regional management strategies.
Input data into digital form and uses computer applications for data analysis, manipulation, and presentation.
Design, test, and implement biological resource focused inventory, monitoring, mitigation, and protection programs.
Provide guidance and assistance to managers for acoustic or photic resource planning and wilderness/natural/cultural resource impact assessments.
Write technical references using clear diction to express biological concepts in terms accessible to a broad audience.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/03/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.
BASIC EXPERIENCE: Have successfully completed a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position (You must provide transcripts). -OR- Have a combination of education and experience that included coursework equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to biology; PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work. The quality of the combination demonstrates that you possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four-year course of study with a major as described above.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: managing an interdisciplinary natural resource management or ecosystem science program; overseeing the planning and direction of complex resource management or ecosystem restoration projects; planning, developing, and implementing natural resource or ecosystem programs; and planning, managing, and implementing ecosystem science research projects. You must include hours per week worked.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
