Duties

Manage an industrial hygiene program for an organization. Develop and implement methods to eliminate or control hazardous and environmental conditions in the workplace. Develop new analytical procedures for identifying and assessing biomedical research laboratory and facility operations health and safety hazards. Analyze and interpret regulations and policies to determine their applicability to an organization's programs, including laboratory research. Provide technical advice and guidance to program staff on industrial hygiene and laboratory and facility safety programs and issues. Plan and conduct studies and surveys analyzing industrial hygiene and safety issues involved in industrial and laboratory processes.

Requirements

  • One-year supervisory probationary period may be required upon selection/ placement.
  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

You qualify at the GS-13 level, if you meet one of the following qualification requirements: A. Completion of a bachelor's (or graduate/higher level) degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science. OR B. Completion of a bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene. OR C. I have a Certification from the American board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). In addition: You must demonstrate in your resume at least one (1) year of qualifying experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: planning and administering an industrial hygiene program for an organization including analyzing and interpreting regulations and policies to determine their applicability to an organization's programs; developing and implementing methods to eliminate or control hazardous and environmental conditions in a work environment; providing training and technical advice to program staff on occupational health and safety programs and issues; evaluating proposed new work processes or materials to assure incorporation of adequate measures for prevention of occupational disease hazards; and preparing technical reports based on toxicological data.
