This position serves as the File Clerk (OA) for Health Business Administration Service at VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System (VASNHS) facilities.
Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
Performs duties related to the receipt, intake, scanning, indexing, quality control, destruction, and transfer of health and administrative information;
Confirms record integrity and reviews the image quality in the VistA Imaging display;
Maintains confidentiality of all electronic records and paper components of the health record;
Follows appropriate procedures when mailing and destroying health information in paper or electronic format;
Retrieves records using a combination of computer-based patient treatment history and historical record transactions to deduce locations of hard-to-find records;
Processes health record transfer requests to other VHA facilities when electronic health information is not adequate;
Prepares records for full inactivation and transfer to the Records Center & Vault or other off-site storage facility approved by the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA);
Files inactive records by terminal digit method (reverse-order pairs), ensuring records are properly labeled with corresponding new barcode labels;
Performs other duties as assigned
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; 7:30am-4:00pm

Qualifications
TYPING PROFICIENCY: This position requires the skills of a qualified typist. In addition to meeting the experience and/or education requirements, you must be able to type at least 40 words per minute. -AND-
To qualify for this position at the GS-4 grade level, you must meet one of the following requirements:
Experience: Have at least one (1) year of progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Experience includes performing work such as scanning, filing items, using a computer to provide clerical support, maintaining confidentiality, etc. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. -OR-
Education: Successful completion of two (2) years of education above the high school level in an accredited institution. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. NOTE: If you select this option, you must submit a copy of your transcript with your application. Education cannot be credited without documentation. -OR-
Combination: Have a combination of post-high school education and general experience that demonstrates your ability to perform the duties of this position. To qualify by a combination, the total qualifying experience will be calculated as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; and the education will be calculated as a percentage of the education required for the grade level. These two percentages will be added, and the total percentages must equal at least 100%. NOTE: If you select this option, you must submit a copy of your transcript with your application. Education cannot be credited without documentation AND experience must clearly documented.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements: The work is mostly sedentary; however, until records have been automated, work may involve considerable walking, standing and bending in the search for health records. There is lifting and carrying of bulky records and boxes, usually not to exceed 50 pounds. Pushing carts is routine for retiring records.
