This position is located at the Prescott VA (Northern Arizona VA Health Care System). Receives requests or instructions for endoscopic procedures. Employee understands and carries out the requests made by the health care professional.
Duties
Major duties include, but are not limited to:
Receive request or instruction for endoscopic procedures.
Understand and carry out requests made by Health Care Professionals
Operate and maintain medical instruments and equipment for diagnostic and treatment procedures.
Determine technical and infection control factors.
Set, control, and operate endoscopic equipment and instruments.
Select, adjust, and adapt specialized equipment for endoscopy procedures.
Locate, set up, store and handle endoscopy equipment.
Follow manufacture instructions for the cleaning and handling of reusable equipment.
Adjust, adapt, and operate specialized equipment accessories required for procedures.
Help interpret results to determine completeness of information as required by manufacturing guidelines.
Adjusts equipment and retake tests as indicated.
Recognize abnormalities and bring them to the attention of appropriate team leader/RN.
Demonstrate use, purpose, and care of instruments and accompanying accessories.
Locate and set up equipment.
Operate and maintain medical instruments according to quality assurance and infection control guidelines.
Provide orientation and training to staff regarding equipment.
Provide assistance of a technical, specialized, or support nature to health and medical personnel.
Perform a range of diagnostic support duties such as taking, recording, and reporting to the QA and PI.
Make gross visual observations and identify equipment failure.
Perform direct patient support work including personal patient care.
Perform administrative tasks such as maintaining control records for specimens and tests and documenting measurements taken.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 7:00am to 5:30pm; Monday through Thursday work schedule, but work schedule may be adjusted to meet the needs of the service.
Telework: Ad-Hoc basis only

Physical Requirements: The work requires some standing, walking, bending, lifting and carrying of light items. The work requires above average agility and dexterity. The work may require heavy lifting of equipment or patients. Could come in contact with bodily fluid.

You may qualify based on your experience as described below:
GS-06 grade level: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-4 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Support duties to medical or health personnel such as audiologists, speech pathologists, medical officers, and optometrists. Therefore, technician experience is experience that required application of the knowledge, methods, and techniques of the position to be filled.

Education
There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
