You will serve as a SOCIAL COUNSELOR in the MARINE CORPS COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPT of MARINE CORPS BASE.

Duties

You will assess and evaluate victims of Domestic Violence (DV) and provide emotional support and assistance in developing a safety plan. You will evaluate individuals, couples, or families’ needs, and if necessary, refer the victim/s to the most appropriate agency for meeting their needs. You will develop appropriate plans of assistance. You will provide follow-up services for victims and maintain/provide up-to-date accurate records to the Director. You will recruit, train, and provide briefings as well as educational seminars in the area of family conflict. You will facilitate training/educational groups for issued related to family, individual, and marriage issues, including Family Advocacy problems. You will frequently communicate with military commanders related to protective orders and issues relating to victim safety.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • You must possess and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to complete a criminal history background check.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-07) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing education and awareness training for prevention programs related to child abuse, domestic violence, and sexual assault. OR have successfully completed 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess

Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

Combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

OR

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
