About the Position: Serves as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) for Army Brigades and works under the supervision of the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator (SARC) in the Sexual Harassment/Assault Response & Prevention (SHARP) program, who provides guidance on program policies and objectives. Providing comprehensive assistance and liaison to victims of sexual assault and sexual harassment.

Duties

Serve as a Victim Advocate (SHARP) supporting a four-star Combatant Command providing professional and comprehensive advocacy services to victims/ survivors of sexual assault and sexual harassment. Ensure victims of sexual assault receive all needed guidance and emotional support during administrative, medical, investigative, and legal procedures. Conduct interactive training workshops/seminars to victims, community agencies and the organization. Inform individuals of reporting options, their rights and responsibilities, as a victim. Conduct assessments with clients to determine required needs and evaluate risk levels. Provide support to victims before, during and after trials. Maintain working relationships with military, state, and local action agencies to facilitate immediate response and accurate reporting of sexual assault incidents.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position may require the employee to occasionally travel away from the normal duty station approximately 25% of the time.
  • Five years or more providing SH/SA advocacy services in the military or private sector is preferred.
  • Background checks against all records required by law, Office of Personnel Management, DoD, and Army policy or regulation will be conducted prior to entering on duty in the position.
  • In accordance with governing regulations, additional checks will be performed on a recurring basis while employed in the position.
  • Incumbents in these positions are required to self-report civilian arrests, the filing of criminal charges, and/or convictions of any criminal offense to their supervisors and security office.
  • Must attend and graduate from required SHARP training courses within six months of employment.
  • Must maintain an active D-SAACP certification and up-to-date commander appointment orders prior to having any victim contact or access to victim information.
  • In the event that D-SAACP certification is expired, suspended, or is revoked, the individual is not authorized to serve in any SHARP position or perform SHARP duties until D-SAACP certification is reinstated.
  • May be subject to occasional 24/7 on-call VA responsibilities.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing advocacy services to victims of sexual assault/ sexual harassment; recognizing the need for professional intervention and referring to appropriate services; conducting training/seminars on sexual assault/sexual harassment; and compiling and submit SHARP program reports, data, and evaluations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: psychology OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.
