You will serve as a Sheet Metal mechanic Leader in the Aviation Maintenance/Material Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Duties

You will instruct apprentices, trainees, journeymen, workers, military personnel, and others. You will demonstrate proper trade techniques and practices and explain safety precautions. You will inspect, analyze, assess, and determine the condition of aircraft structural systems, sub-systems, and components. You will disassemble, modify, repair, and assemble structural parts and aerodynamic surfaces on aircraft and aircraft components. You will provide technical advice, guidance, and work direction to artisans. You will distribute work to keep everyone in the crew productive and check work in progress and when finished to determine if proper work sequence procedures, methods, and deadlines were met.

Requirements

  • Position requires lifting and carrying objects up to 35 pounds. Any weight lifted in excess of 40 pounds will not be attempted unaided.
  • You may be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift
  • Must obtain and maintain all required certification and/or license as a condition of employment.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals).

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE I am considered an expert in the Sheet Metal Mechanic trade and I am consulted by other employees in difficult situations. I have the ability to lead/supervise others who perform the most difficult and complex tasks including: 1) Maintains communication with supervisors and production management informed on the status, progress of work, and constraints; 2) Performs static and dynamic inspections and assessment of assigned Type/Model/Series (TMS) aircraft structural components and accessories on workload such as Integrated Maintenance Concept (IMC), Planned Maintenance Interval (PMI), In-Service Repair (ISR), and Modification: 3) Provide technical advice and recommendation(s) to production, support organizations and customers regarding the examination and evaluation results; 4) Knowledge of the following procedures/processes; Aircraft Log sell, Aircraft Induction, Stricken Aircraft Reclamation and Disposal Process (SARDIP), cannibalization (back rob and divert), Beyond Economic Repair (BER), 7R turn in (Repairable), and Source Maintenance and Recoverability (SM&R); 5) Possess a high degree of analytical ability and experience using advanced inspection and assessment techniques and methods; 6) Use of precision measuring devices and equipment. I am considered an expert and work with a high degree of independence. I have the ability to lead/supervise others who perform the full range of Sheet Metal Mechanic tasks including: 1) Maintains communication with supervisors and production management informed on the status, progress of work, and constraints; 2) Performs progressive static and dynamic inspections and assessment of assigned Type/Model/Series (TMS) aircraft structural components and accessories on workload such as Integrated Maintenance Concept (IMC), Planned Maintenance Interval (PMI), In-Service Repair (ISR), and Modification: 3) Provide technical advice and recommendation(s) to production, support organizations and customers regarding the examination and evaluation results; 4) Working knowledge of the following procedures/processes; Aircraft Log sell, Aircraft Induction, Stricken Aircraft Reclamation and Disposal Process (SARDIP), cannibalization (back rob and divert), Beyond Economic Repair (BER), 7R turn in (Repairable), and Source Maintenance and Recoverability (SM&R); 5) Must possess a high degree of analytical ability and experience using advanced inspection and assessment techniques and methods; 6) Use of precision measuring devices and equipment. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. I have the ability to lead/supervise others who perform common Sheet Metal Mechanic tasks including: 1) Maintains communication with supervisors and production management informed on the status, progress of work, and constraints; 2) Performs progressive static and dynamic inspections and assessment of assigned Type/Model/Series (TMS) aircraft structural components and accessories on workload such as Integrated Maintenance Concept (IMC), Planned Maintenance Interval (PMI), In-Service Repair (ISR), and Modification: 3) Provide technical advice and recommendation(s) to production, support organizations and customers regarding the examination and evaluation results; 4) Must have working knowledge of the following procedures/processes; Aircraft Log sell, Aircraft Induction, Stricken Aircraft Reclamation and Disposal Process (SARDIP), cannibalization (back rob and divert), Beyond Economic Repair (BER), 7R turn in (Repairable), and Source Maintenance and Recoverability (SM&R); 5) Must possess a high degree of analytical ability and experience using advanced inspection and assessment techniques and methods; 6) Use of precision measuring devices and equipment. I work under the supervision of a higher-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. I have the ability to perform simple tasks or I have received training on this type of work. I do not have on-the-job training or the abilities described above.
