Duties

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be in non-pay status for approximately 1 pay period sometime in December or January, and you will be in a pay status for the remainder of the year.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/11/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: Scuba diving is required to perform coral reef research and monitoring work. As such, this position performs diving in the ocean and is required to possess a current open water and/or scientific certification from a recognized organization (ex: Professional Association of Diving Instructors (PADI), National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI), or scientific diving certification from an organization such as American Academy of Underwater Scientists (AAUS)). If you do not meet the requirements of this selective factor, you will be rated ineligible for this position. Applicants MUST provide documentation in your application to show one of the certifications above to be considered qualified for this position. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position. - AND - To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal Service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience MUST include: 1) Developed or designed various aspects of research, inventory, monitoring, restoration projects and/or management and manipulation of biological resources on the basis of overall objectives; 2) Utilized a variety of computer programs to compile, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data and other resource management information, including research and long-term monitoring projects, reports and correspondence; 3) Evaluated observed conditions and problems, and interpreted variables, trends, correlations, and interrelationships among data and conditions; and 4) Coordinated, lead, administered, and/or executed field research techniques pertaining to natural resource management and species identification. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Two full academic years of graduate education or possess a master's degree in a field related to the position. (You must provide transcripts). -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts.
