This position is in the Office of Research and Development, Center for Public Health and Environmental Assessment, Health and Environmental Effects Assessment Division. Qualifications

NOTE:  You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-14 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level defined as assisting in the implementation of strategic plans for a project or program of a scientific nature; providing technical and/or scientific guidance on projects; and participating in internal or external conference, seminars, workgroups, or committees.  To qualify for the GS-15 level, you must have 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level defined a executing and overseeing strategic plans for a project or program of a scientific, nature; monitoring performance measures to assess the effectiveness, efficiency, and progress of work deliverables; and participating in internal or external conferences, seminars, workgroups or committees. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of human health and environmental assessments related to air pollutants. Skill in project management. Skill in strategic planning of human and financial resources. Skill in written communication sufficient to deliver high-level reports and guidance. Ability to provide recommendations on national programs. Skill in collaborating with interdisciplinary work groups or committees. Skill in building and maintaining relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Skill in oral communication. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

A bachelor’s or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in: 

Biologists: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following:  biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position; OR a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major, as listed.

Ecologists: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biology or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences.  These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.

Toxicologists: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in toxicology, or an appropriate discipline of the biological, medical, or veterinary sciences that included at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, biochemistry, or physiology, and 12 semester hours in toxicology.

Physical Scientists: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in one of the following:  physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics; OR a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors listed that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
