You will serve as a POLICE OFFICER in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT (N3) of NSA BETHESDA SECURITY DETACHMENT.
Duties
You will apprehend or detain individuals in accordance with regulations or laws.
You will answer questions relating to law enforcement inquiries.
You will check credentials of personnel or vehicles to control access to base posts, buildings, private property, or restricted areas.
You will inspect packages and personal belongings when admitting personnel into controlled areas.
You will conduct a search for criminal activity in buildings, warehouses, vehicles, vessels, aircraft, luggage, or other areas.

- Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
- The DON does not employ individuals for Law Enforcement Officer positions who have been convicted of a crime of domestic violence on or after 27 November 2002. You must submit DD Form 2760, Qualification to Possess Firearms before appointment.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or pass the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. You will be required to sign a DD-Form-2760, Qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
- Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
- Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- You must have reached your 21st birthday prior to completing Police Academy training.
- You must maintain applicable weapons qualifications standards at the assigned installation.
- You must also successfully complete any annual sustainment training, Level 1 Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) contamination training (if applicable), and OC refresher training.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to be CPR certified and utilize a portable heart defibrillator where available.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-6 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:1) Responds to and investigates complaints while interpreting and enforcing state and federal laws, the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), DoD and Navy regulations, and installation directives; 2) possesses authority to apprehend personnel, both combative and non-combative members of the public; 3) Performs traffic law enforcement using specialized equipment such as radar, breathalyzer, and must be qualified/certified in these specialized areas and on the necessary equipment; and 4) Performs a full range of force protection, anti-terrorism and sentry duties at installations or activities with significant operational assets, unrestricted access points, large populations onboard and around the installation/activity, or other characteristics that require the incumbent to utilize a higher level of awareness and comprehension in order to deter, detect, delay and deny unauthorized access at CNIC installations, internal compounds, enclaves, critical infrastructure, and incident established cordons.
