The Financial Accounts Technician position is located at the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in Research Service, Administrative Section.
Duties

Major Duties:
Compiles and maintains Research Service accounts.
Assists and maintains all cost accounting files and past experience information for current budget controls and future estimates.
Checks accuracy of funding documents and continually updates records of status of funds for assigned fund control points.
Reviews documents such as vouchers, purchase requests, and contractor invoices to assure agreement of budgetary account codes and dollar amounts, and compliance with regulations and procedures.
Certifies invoices for payments.
Maintains Research Service records for requested purchases, items obligated, items received, back ordered or price corrections in a current status to insure funds are available for commitments.
Investigates discrepancies in activity listing with Fiscal Service.
Reconciles all bi-weekly computer printouts for items issued and cost against Research Service records.
Makes corrections with Fiscal Service and updates information in the research helix database.
Performs other duties assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-5 level, applicants must meet one of the following:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-4) in the Federal Service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes: Reviewing documents such as vouchers, purchase requests, contractor invoices to assure agreement of budgetary account codes and dollar amounts in compliance with regulations; coordinating administrative tasks and activities; entering data into a computerized system, checking records and automated systems for status of payments and payment dates, and follow up as necessary; responding to customer inquiries and resolving recurring problems. This experience must be detailed in your resume to receive credit. NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title; duties; month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED): Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described.

IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Physical Requirements: Work is mostly sedentary, however there is some lifting of moderately heavy package involved in checking in supplies and handling copier paper. Much of the work is done on a computer. Some walking, standing, bending, and carrying of light items such as papers and files are required.
Work is performed in a typical office setting that is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated.
