This position is in Region 7, Superfund and Emergency Management Division, Remediation Branch, Federal Facilities and Priority Site Section. About Region 7. Qualifications

NOTE:  You must meet qualification requirements, including any requirements described in the Education section, by the closing date of this announcement. In addition to the basic entry education requirements, you must have specialized experience and/or directly related education as described below: To qualify for the GS-07 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level defined as experience in assisting senior level scientists performing analyses, tests, and assignments related to radiation exposure. 1 year of graduate-level education; or superior academic achievement (Superior Academic Achievement Definition); the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience To qualify for the GS-09 level, you must have one of the following: 1 year of full-time* specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level defined as experience in developing safety plans involving radiation remediation or contamination. 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree; or master’s or equivalent graduate degree; the education must be directly related and provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position equivalent combination of education and experience Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of basic concepts, principles and theories of health physics. Ability to apply investigation techniques and legal methodologies to convey findings. Ability to understand and apply a variety of environmental regulations as they pertain to radiation. Knowledge of industrial hygiene and health and safety regulations that relate to radiation safety. Ability to implement project management concepts including goal setting and adjusting project objectives to meet production requirements. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus; OR a combination of education and experience which included courses in the fields included in the described course work; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education comparable to the described coursework.
