As an Architect, you will serve as a recognized technical authority and SME to all GSA regional architects, engineers and building managers regarding the repair, alteration, maintenance and security issues on all significant, complex or highly visible projects.The Design and Construction Division develops and delivers workplace environments and solutions to support our customers' needs. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.  

Duties

Serves as a senior architect responsible for the architectural programs for PBS, with overall responsibility for the technical and business management of designated design, construction, renovation or alteration project processes, ensuring architectural excellence in projects within an assigned Region; as well as managing select projects and studies. Provides oversight and expert technical consultation services, conducts architectural reviews in support of GSA's national Design and Construction Programs and initiatives and implements standards, policies, regulations, statutes or Executive Orders applicable to the GSA Design and Construction programs. Serves as a recognized technical authority to all GSA regional architects, engineers and building managers as well as contract A/E firms and construction teams regarding the repair, alteration, maintenance and security issues on all significant, complex or highly visible projects. Independently conducts briefings, discussions, and negotiations with high level agency representatives, GSA management, and project teams, contract A/E firms, construction firms and external stakeholders to resolve controversies, promote innovative design and construction approaches, and develop consensus on projects with state of the art architectural issues or other sensitive professional matters. Coordinates with other assigned personnel to assure that all technical areas are covered, that proper design consideration is given and that the total project objectives and schedules are met. Prepares detailed cost or A/E fee estimates and pertinent correspondence, plans, reports, and Architect/Engineer (A/E) contract criteria necessary for project completion. Represents GSA and the Contracting Officer on Architect/Engineer, Construction Management, and Construction contracts as the Contracting Officer’s Representative (COR). Exercises full delegated authority for the Contracting Officer, reviewing and inspecting the work as it proceeds in compliance with contract requirements.

For specifics on qualifying education, training, and/or experience - use the following link: Basic Requirements for Architect Positions.SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  In addition to the Basic Requirements listed above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is professional architecture experience in the design of construction or alteration projects involving large and complex buildings or major building systems; and the coordination of the activities of architects, engineers, tenants and construction contractors on such projects. Such experience must also include having independently managed projects (balance scope/quality, schedule and budget) requiring the services of multiple disciplines from project initiation phase through project closeout. This position has a positive education requirement: Applicants must submit a copy of their college or university transcript(s) and certificates by the closing date of announcements to verify qualifications.
