About the Position: The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and-operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813.

Duties

Programs and operates logic testing systems used in fault isolation of digital and analog electronic modules. Modifies circuit design to improve operation or maintenance of the system. Identifies the fault and narrows the failure to a small group of outputs and then isolates the fault by measuring transition behavior with a logic probe. Maintains and troubleshoots electronic AC and DC SCR tape drive systems. Analyzes, repairs and maintains mechanical systems of production and non-production equipment and machinery such as lathe, drill press, pumps, filters, motors, profiler and milling machine.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • This position may require shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • Due to the nature of this position, employees may be required to work both planned and unscheduled overtime.
  • This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
  • This position involves duties which are subject to resource conservation and recovery act (RCRA) Regulations regarding hazardous wastes.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.

(1) Maintain, test and repair various types of electronically controlled industrial equipment and/or machinery; (2) Experience with circuits and basic logic circuits to power, timing and motion controls; (3) Use of electrical and electronic block diagrams, wiring diagrams and/or schematics; and (4) Programs and operates various electronic modules. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element)Ability to Use Hand and Power Tools (Electronics)Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Theory of ElectronicsTroubleshooting (Electronic Equipment)Use of Test Equipment: Electronics Physical Effort: Work assignments require light to moderate physical effort. They work in a sitting position for extended periods. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching and stooping is required. Occasionally, climbing and work in high places is required. Required to lift and carry items weighing up to 44 pounds. Mechanical lifting devices and other employees are available to assist with lifts of 45 pounds and over. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside in well lighted, heated, and ventilated areas. Work is sometimes in high or restricted places, under conditions of heat or cold, and occasionally outside in inclement weather. Employees are subject to injuries such as electric shock, cuts and bruises, as well as burns caused by electrical energy, soldering irons or chemicals and solvents.
