You will serve as an Equipment Specialist in Planning Section (Code 730.1), Crane Maintenance Division, Lifting and Handling Department of theNORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will be assigned work covering designated equipment, components and systems (mechanical, structural, electrical or electronic) within and related to Weight Handling Equipment (WHE). You will determine, based on cost impact on Production Department work schedules, vendors capabilities, difficulty of manufacture and availability of materials, whether to manufacture or procure, through approved vendors non-standard items. You will analyze items requiring Shipyard manufacture and assign work to appropriate shops based on engineering requirements. You will visit work sites and meet with the head of requesting department if necessary. You will act as a liaison between Lifting and Handling Department divisions by preparing technical work documents and providing technical and field assistance to crane engineering.

  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to climb ladders and scaffolding.
  • You will be required to have visual acuity and accurate color discrimination.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with all aspects of all WHE components and other assigned shipyard equipment designated as special purpose service (SPS); Experience researching and interpreting engineering plans, drawing, technical manuals, as well as examine equipment to determine technical information identifications and functions of components and repair parts to source material from the stock system; Experience determining, based on cost, impact on Production Department work schedules, vendor capabilities, difficulty of manufacture and availability of material, whether to manufacture or procure, through approved vendors, non-standard items; Experience providing detailed instructions, drawing dimensions and engineering specifications for shipyard manufactured materials; Experience preparing detailed TWDs, CWI, material procurement documents and sketches for providing repair instructions for deficiencies; Experience with re-inspect and/or review all completed work and associated documentation to insure repairs, alterations/modifications, construction, maintenance and/or improvement have been accomplished in accordance with written instructions; Experience applying the policies, procedure and regulation mandated by NAVSEA, NAVFAC and local requirements that govern the utilization and maintenance of special purpose service WHE. Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate level education

or

Successful completion of bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement
