This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service (ARS), Pacific West Area (PWA), at the Horticultural Crops Disease & Pest Management Research Unit in Corvallis, OR.
In this position, you will expand knowledge on pathogen and insect biology and management to enhance plant health and quality of horticultural crops.
Duties
Maintains insect colonies, cell lines, and preparing stocks in the laboratory.
Prepares insect cell lines and functional expression in the laboratory.
Conducts various molecular biological/physiological experiments and fine-scale work under microscope.
Collects, prepares, evaluates, and verifies samples and supporting records; maintains records and locates and compiles data and other information from various sources.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

GS-07:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-07 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-06 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience participating in an insect-based research project; collecting insect samples; and compiling records of experimental data.
OR
Education: One full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Molecular Biology, Entomology, Biochemistry, or Pest Management.
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above.
GS-08:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-08 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-07 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience maintaining insect colonies or cell cultures; performing basic statistical analyses of data; and maintaining specialized equipment in a laboratory environment.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Molecular Biology, Entomology, Biochemistry, or Pest Management.

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above.
GS-09:
Specialized Experience: Specialized experience is experience directly related to the position to be filled. Specialized experience must be described for each grade level advertised. The specialized experience requirements for this position are: Qualifying experience for GS-09 includes one year of specialized experience comparable to GS-08 which is directly related to the work of this position and which has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. For this position, specialized experience is experience conducting various molecular or physiological bioassays with insects; performing molecular analyses of data using molecular software packages; and preparing scientific data to be included in manuscripts or reports.

Education: Two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree, if directly related. Related degrees may include Molecular Biology, Entomology, Biochemistry, or Pest Management.

A combination of experience and graduate education as described above.
