This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Competitive Service Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located at Lower Granite Natural Resources Office, operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and situated in Clarkston, Washington.

Duties

Inspects, installs, repairs, maintains, tests, modifies and adjusts equipment, facilities and structures related to public use, general project operations, water control, and utility systems. Performs metal fabrication, modification and repair through gas and arc welding, grinding and finishing. Performs irrigation planning, installation, rehab and maintenance system projects. Operates various equipment such as boats, back hoes, and dump trucks. Make repairs to water-borne and vault toilets, drinking fountains, hydrants, lavatories. Performs grounds maintenance tasks at recreation facilities, such as repairing wooden/metal fences, thinning trees and removing hazardous trees.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• Valid state drivers license required.
• Pre-employment drug test is required.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers boat operator license within 12 months after initial appointment.
• Ability to Life up to 45 lbs.
• This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations. Employee shifts are rotated on a regularly scheduled basis.
• Position required incumbent to be on call.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE WORKER ~ without more than normal supervision. Perform the majority of the duties of a Maintenance Worker such as carpentry, repairing irrigation systems, and plumbing repairs. I have full level skills in operating all associated tools and equipment related to the sub journeyman level skills. I have experience operating and maintaining forklifts, backhoes and tractor-trailers. I have performed daily operation checks of this equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Physical effort: Exerts heavy physical effort in doing such tasks as frequently lifting and moving objects weighing under 45 pounds unassisted, obtains assistance or uses appropriate equipment or safety devices when lifting and moving heavy objects greater than 45 pounds. Physical dexterity is needed to handle tools and work around machinery or equipment. Working Conditions: Work is generally performed outdoors in all extremes of weather, in and over water, in wildland vegetation, in flood control and building structures. Hazards include heat, cold, dust, insect bites and stings, injurious vegetation, electric shock, drowning, work around machinery and heavy equipment, noise, vibration, falls from ladders and high work surfaces, and toxic chemicals. Work requires heavy lifting, continuous standing, walking, or stooping in all extremes of weather, including under wet and muddy conditions on steep or uneven terrain. Work requires special care to avoid injuries.
