Incumbent works in the Commander, Navy Region, Southwest (CNRSW), Fleet & Family Readiness NAS Lemoore (FFR), Morale, Welfare and Recreation (MWR) Program Fitness Division under the general supervision of the Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Fitness Director). The purpose of this position is to plan and carry out a comprehensive aquatics program to include all aquatics activities to meet the needs of eligible patrons.

Duties

Plans, organizes, coordinates, directs, motivates, publicizes and develops an aquatics program and provides instructional classes for authorized patrons. Supervises up to (25) NF-01 Recreations Aids (Lifeguards) and (2) NF-02 Recreation Assistants. Assists in planning, and implementing a comprehensive, aquatics program, for active and retired military, authorized civilians, contractors, and dependents at multiple facilities. These programs include (but are not limited to) recreation swim, lap swim, water safety instruction, aquatic events, etc. Protects lives through aggressive prevention, preparedness, education, emergency medical, and rescue programs. Manages respiratory, cardiac and first aid emergencies to include performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), bag-valve-mask (BVM) resuscitation, or automatic external defibrillation (AED). Ensures all maintenance work, water chemical testing, pool vacuuming, filtration, and equipment are within the scope required by preventative medicine standards. Teaches various swimming skills and basic diving for all age groups. Prepares material for classes being taught. Ensures the safety of all patrons in the class. Evaluates the effectiveness of ongoing aquatics classes & programs from the standpoint of participant response and available resources and adapts varies aquatics classes & programs. Ensures all applicable rules and regulations pertaining to swimming pools and waterfronts are posted and observed. Performs water rescues and land rescues equal to the standard of training when an emergency is taking place (e.g. drowning, medical or trauma in the water, etc.). Manages the use and maintenance of emergency equipment such as specialized kits and rescue bags, backboards, suction devices, splints, stretchers, and monitoring equipment. Develops and oversees emergency medical and rescue training, public education and other related educational and functional duties. Interviews and hires new aquatics lifeguards and provides them with required orientation, plans and assigns work, scheduling, resolves problems, approves leave, under direction initiates discipline or meritorious, as appropriate, develops training plans and promotes equal Employment Opportunity. Inspects area for general condition, safety hazards or for routine maintenance needs and report's findings to supervisor. Maintains equipment and facility in accordance with health, safety, sanitation and fire regulations. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must meet federal suitability requirements including successful completion of background investigation.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must possess current nationally recognized aquatics (Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer and Emergency Response through the American Red Cross or equivalent) certifications.
  • The following certifications are preferred or required within the first 90 days of employment (CPR Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor, Certified Pool Operator and Water Safety Instructor) certifications.

Qualifications

Resumes must include information which demonstrates experience and knowledge, skills, and ability (KSAs) as they relate to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate must possess: Knowledge of aquatics and related aquatics safety programs that would be obtained with a minimum of three years of progressive experience in aquatics programs or have a four-year undergraduate degree in Health, Fitness, Recreation or related field. Knowledge of various specialty equipment, both resale and fixed assets to ensure quality material exists to enhance programs. Knowledge of the roles of the lifeguards during a coordinated rescue scene for the safety of the rescuers and the victim. Knowledge of and ability to conduct pool chemical testing, adjust chemical imbalances, and document the results. Skill in planning and executing a comprehensive aquatics program that includes a variety of aquatics activities and/or individual, which meets the needs of the participating community. Skill in the use of Microsoft Office Programs (e.g., Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) and other operating systems used in the program area. Ability to develop and effectively deliver presentations and/or training. Ability to perform the full range of supervisory duties.
