This position is located in Base Cape Cod, Personnel Service Department, MWR Division, Barnstable, MA.

Duties

The purpose of this position is to develop and implement various events, recreation and athletic activities involving such facilities as: community recreation center, youth center, gymnasiums, swimming pools, tennis courts, fitness jogging trails, and athletic fields (softball, football, soccer, etc.) and any other facilities and activities authorized by higher level directive..   Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team.

  • Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

Qualifications for the GS-09:  Applicants must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level.  Examples of specialized experience include: Planning and coordinating the details of recurring and nonrecurring activities, special events, and recreational programs to make maximum use of facilities, services and other resources;  scheduling and publicizing recreational activities, insuring maximum effectiveness in attracting and motivating participants; Arranging for supplies and services needed to accomplish scheduled activities; Accounting for all funds involved and making recommendations for improvements in funding and other support services; Developing periodic program plans and annual budget requirements with supporting data; and Continuously evaluating the effectiveness of ongoing recreation activities and adapting program activities based on findings.  OR a master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. OR J.D., if related. OR A combination of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in or related to the work of this position and some graduate level education that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of this position and experience.  Experience and education combinations are computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining the total of qualifying education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages.  The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at that grade level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.  Equivalent combinations of education and experience are may also be used to meet qualification requirements. National Service Experience (i.e., volunteer experience): Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.The Office of Personnel management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.  If you are currently, or have been within the last 5 years, a political Schedule A, Schedule, C, Non-career SES or Presidential Appointee employee in the Executive Branch, you must disclose this information to the Human Resources Office.
