Duties

As a Legal Administrative Specialist for the United States Attorney's Office, you will be responsible for providing technical and analytical assistance to support the litigation needs of the District. Typical work assignments will include: - Performing a variety of automated support necessary to prepare, organize, index, develop and manage exhibits, evidence and relevant data; - Applying basic knowledge of Federal Criminal and Civil procedures; - Performing a wide range of information system analysis, development and installations; - Assisting and/or training attorneys and legal support staff in organizing voluminous discovery applications; - Preparing and organizing exhibits for court proceedings which involves audio/video, transcripts, documents and visual materials, including charts, diagrams, photographs and models; - Preparing computerized trial presentation programs; - Providing automated support to present before a jury, grand jury or other legal proceedings; and - Assuring documents are organized for efficient automated storage and retrieval by preparing appropriate indices, defining data file search criteria and indexing/coding fields. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.

Qualifications

GS-7:To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below: Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized Experience: at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as performing routine litigation support assignments, assisting with organizing case information, preparing discovery productions, including scanning and coding documents and creating CDs; assisting attorneys in preparing for court such as preparing exhibits, compiling trial notebooks and compiling witness and exhibit lists; verifying citations; assisting in the use of technology to organize digital evidence; and preparing, drafting and editing a variety of legal and trial-related documents. Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Computer Science, Criminal Justice, Paralegal Studies, Law): one (1) full year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR four (4) years of undergraduate level education in a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement (see definition in the "Education Section" of this vacancy announcement). Education must be obtained in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and Experience: a combination specialized experience and graduate education can be used if, when combined, are equal 100% of the qualification requirement.
