The incumbent has a dual role of responsibilities and functions as a Project/Resident Engineer on delegated construction projects. Under the general direction of the Project Section Chief, the incumbent serves as a Healthcare Engineer responsible for the engineering analysis, development, design of, and the preparation of complete plans and specifications for new work and improvements.
Duties
Identifies a wide range of complex problems using professional knowledge of various engineering disciplines including civil, electrical, mechanical, architectural, electronic and biomedical.
Monitors engineering and architectural aspects of large-scale construction projects to ensure compliance with contract plans.
Administers A/E contracts for compliance.
Interprets construction drawings, specifications, and building codes.
Designs and plans for the implementation of construction activity at the medical facility in a way to minimize the disruption of patient care.
Provides engineering technical oversight on team based projects.
Displays knowledge of computer systems such as Computer Assisted Design Drawing (CADD) system, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, and Access.
Performs engineering duties with considerable latitude from technical control in selecting and modifying methods, guidelines and techniques for the resolution of complex problems and situations.
Performs engineering duties using guidelines such as Joint Commission standards, NFPA codes, Resident Engineer's Handbook, OSHA, EPA and State DEQ rules and regulations.
Understands engineering's impact on special emphasis programs such as energy reduction and green environmental management.
Serves as the engineering technical advisor on large, complex utility installation projects.
Manages very complex construction, demolition and renovation projects in a health care setting.
Understands Joint Commission risk assessment requirements for construction projects.
Ensures that all interim life safety measures are implemented and maintained.
Ensures construction projects are completed in a timely and cost effective manner to provide adequate patient care.
Interacts with various stakeholders such as design-build contractors, procurement personnel, medical center staff, Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ), etc.

Physical Requirements: The duties of the position require visits to all areas of the medical center environment. Physical agility and manual dexterity are essential In that 1he incumbent must be able to climb, lift, push, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, and work in close quarters during project Inspections and gathering of project design Information. Inspections of hazardous environments require the use of respirators and protective clothing. Incumbent spends a significant portion of each day conducting field inspections; may often be required to personally oversee delicate or dangerous work In the field for long hours each day, such as overhead crane work, confined space entry, excavation and 1renchlng, and high voltage field connections.

Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering or Architecture. To be acceptable, the curriculum must be from a school with at least one curriculum accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology, Engineering Accreditation Commission (excludes engineering technology) or National Council of Architectural Registration Boards curriculum. Examples of acceptable engineering and architectural degrees include, but are not limited to: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture and Architectural Engineering. Titles may vary from educational institutions and change over time;
OR
Evidence of passing the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam with a bachelor's degree. Evidence can be in the form of an Engineering in Training certificate issued from any State, the District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico, or test results from the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying (NCEES) identifying a passing score;
OR
Evidence of current professional registration or licensure as a Professional Engineer or Architect from any State, the District of Columbia, Guam or Puerto Rico.
