This position is located in Glacier National Park, in the Intermountain Region. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately May 1st through January 28th, and you will be in a non-pay status from approximately Feb 1st through April 30th.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to the following: Serves as a field biologist and subject matter expert for ungulate and carnivore program. Implements wildlife program by carrying out wildlife hazing, trapping, research, and human management actions for protected and sensitive species, and non-native animals. Develops and maintains liaisons and effective working relations with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public in order to encourage and facility cooperative regional management strategies. Following established procedures, incumbent conducts protection, mitigation, and restoration projects to prevent resource damage, to restore and/or maintain critical habitats, native plant and animal communities, managed landscapes and physical resources. Following established protocols, coordinates park's natural resources strategies and programs with those on adjacent lands for the purpose of achieving broad ecosystem protection strategies and preventing human impacts. Prepares management and scientific reports, for review, regarding the results of protection, mitigation, restoration, inventory, monitoring, and research activities. Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-06/07/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. or Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Following instructions and standardized procedures; collecting and organizing field data; assisting in the preparation of reports, plans, and guidelines which may have included literature research, descriptions of methods, preparation of graphs and charts, and summary of findings; providing logistical support and area orientation for contract or cooperating scientists; installing, operating, and maintaining resource management equipment (e.g., tools, traps, and sampling, monitoring, photographic, and laboratory equipment); evaluating quality assurance compliance, calibrating, and conducting inventories on equipment as necessary; ordering replacement parts, new equipment, and supplies; providing advice, assistance, and training to students, student conservation assistants, and volunteers involved in resource management projects and field research; utilizing a variety of computer programs to compile, reduce, store, retrieve, analyze, and report data and other resource management information, including natural science research and long-term monitoring projects; maintaining and organizing computer databases; providing information to other employees and visitors about the natural resource management program; and referring unusual questions to the supervisor. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year (defined as the number of hours that the school attended determined to represent one full year of full-time study; if unavailable, then 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours will be considered as satisfying the requirement) of progressively higher graduate-level education in a field of study directly related to the position. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement in a related field of study. Superior Academic Achievement is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average, or (3) honor society membership. Class standing -- Applicants must be in the upper third of the graduating class in the college, university, or major subdivision, such as the College of Liberal Arts or the School of Business Administration, based on completed courses. Grade-point average (G.P.A.) -- Applicants must have a grade-point average of: 3.0 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B" or better) as recorded on their official transcript, or as computed based on 4 years of education, or as computed based on courses completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum; or 3.5 or higher out of a possible 4.0 ("B+" or better) based on the average of the required courses completed in the major field or the required courses in the major field completed during the final 2 years of the curriculum. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first calculate your percentage of qualifying graduate education by dividing your number of semester hours by 18. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts. To qualify for this position at the GS-09 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Collecting field data contributing to the basic natural or cultural resources inventory of a park or a monitoring program to assess status and trends of resources condition; identifying species, measures of abundance or condition, environmental parameters, etc. using technical instruments, manuals, protocols, and knowledge of the resources; drafting workplans and implementation strategies; accomplishing small or simple restoration or mitigation actions, or participating as a member of a team accomplishing more complex projects; investigating natural resources and subjects not documented in park files to a level adequate to identify, protect or interpret them properly; assisting in coordinating the work of visiting professionals from various offices and professionals under contract in natural resources management disciplines. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years (36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours) of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent graduate degree in a directly related field of study. You must include transcripts. -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first calculate your percentage of qualifying graduate education by dividing your number of semester hours in excess of 18 semester hours by 18. Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only graduate education beyond the first year is creditable toward the GS-09 when combining education and experience. You must include transcripts. Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
