Serves as a Supervisory Physician (Obstetrics/Gynecology), which involves performance of diagnostic, preventative and/or therapeutic services to OB/GYN patients in Hospital or other designated health care facilities. Duties

Manages and directs the OB/GYN Department including strategic planning, policy formulation, budget management, human resource management, performance improvement, quality management, information management, equipment and supplies management, and planning and management of specialty clinics. The work supervised is complicated by the multitude of patient conditions including medical and surgical issues affecting women ranging in age from adolescent to elderly. Provides quality medical/surgical evaluation and treatment to inpatients and outpatients with a wide variety of diagnostic conditions. Provides expert professional consultation to department personnel, medical staff within Gallup Service Unit, public schools, and the community in general. Supervises staff physicians assigned tot the department. Oversees the overal planning, administration, development and implementation of program documents, reports, budgets, staffing, etc. concerning the operation of the OB/GYN Services Branch.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Note: An agency may waive the licensure requirement for research positions not involving direct patient care. Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, a candidate must have had at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or an institution accredited for such training. For purposes of this standard, graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, and fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada. Descriptions of such programs are described below. An internship program involves broadly based clinical practice in which physicians acquire experience in treating a variety of medical problems under supervision (e.g., internal medicine, surgery, general practice, obstetrics-gynecology, and pediatrics). Such programs are in hospitals or other institutions accredited for internship training by a recognized body of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). A residency program involves training in a specialized field of medicine in a hospital or an institution accredited for training in the specialty by a recognized body of the American Medical Association(external link), (AMA) or Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). A fellowship program involves advanced training (beyond residency training) in a given medical specialty in either a clinical or research setting in a hospital or an institution accredited in the United States for such training. GS-15: 5 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience and training. Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examples Include: Direct involvement with managing, developing and coordinating a comprehensive clinical, preventive, and public health approach to health programs. Develop and implement guidelines, standards, policies, and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge in supervisory and budget management principles in order to effectively recruit and manage a diverse staff, achieve Agency objectives and manage resources. Develop and implement data collection and evaluation activities to perform program evaluation. Provide guidance, advice and expertise in a team environment. AGENCY-WIDE SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR - Board Certification: Applicants applying in a specialty must meet one of the following as an approved agency-wide selective factor. This becomes part of the minimum requirements to qualify for the position. Board Certified in the Specialty to which the applicant is applying or Active Registrant of the Board in the Specialty to which the applicant is applying The selected individual is required to obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges, including any licensure requirements. If privileges are not obtained or maintained during employment, the employee will be subject to adverse actions, up to and including removal from Federal service. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
