This position is subject to NRC security ownership restrictions and Confidential Financial Disclosure reporting and requirements.
Salary includes 25% law enforcement availability pay upon successful completion of the Criminal Investigator Training Program.
Duties
Serves as a Special Agent trainee in the Office of the Inspector General (OIG) with the responsibility under the direction of the Special Agent in Charge (SAC), to assist with investigations and event inquiries as may be required to assure the integrity of operations of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and Defense Nuclear Facilities Safety Board (DNFSB).
Qualifications
In order to qualify for this position, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE is defined as experience providing technical, and administrative oversight for various programs or activities at the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, which contribute to the success of the agency's programs, operations, and/or activities. You will be assessed on the following competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities, and other characteristics):
Ability to conduct investigations or inspections, prepare written summaries and reports, and analyze results and/or findings in line with good investigative report writing techniques.
Knowledge of applicable administrative policies, practices, and procedures within the Federal Government and the NRC.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with NRC personnel, private industry, law enforcement personnel, Congressional personnel, and other personnel.
Ability to learn the correct techniques and use of firearms and defensive tactics.
Knowledge in either the collection, preparation, documentation, analysis and/or preservation of physical and documentary evidence or information pertinent to the Federal government.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: Failure to demonstrate this knowledge and/or experience will result in the immediate disqualification from consideration. This selective placement factor is in addition to the competencies listed above. Candidates for this vacancy must possess either formal education as confirmed by a college degree/certification or at least 2 or more year's experience in one or more of the following knowledge areas:

Additionally, during your interview, you may be required to respond verbally to hypothetical scenarios that reflect real-world issues, problems, and taskings that an OIG Special Agent may face on a daily basis. Failure to provide a writing sample and/or respond to the scenarios may disqualify you from further consideration.Candidates are subject to the maximum age of original entry into law enforcement positions with this agency, which is 37, unless they have previous service in a Federal civilian law enforcement position covered by special law enforcement retirement provisions or are a preference-eligible veteran.If selected for this position, you will be required to carry and use a firearm following the completion of the Criminal Investigator Training Program (CITP). Furthermore, upon completion of CITP, maintaining firearm proficiency will be mandatory.Failure to meet or maintain the requirements for the Criminal Investigator series 1811 and/or the NRC OIG Investigation's Handbook will result in the immediate removal from employment, no later than 60 days after official notice is issued to employee.
Education
