This position is located on in a USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service state, area, or field office within a designated state.
The incumbent provides engineering assistance working with landowners, groups, and units of government to apply and maintain a variety of conservation practices.
Duties
Assembles complete packages of drawings and specification for jobs.
Prepare drawings using CADD and manual methods.
Determines the type, scope, and intensity of field investigations and surveys needed.
Maintains construction inspection records according to current service policy.
Make site evaluations to assess the need for complex engineering measures.
Make recommendations to the engineering specialist, the District Conservationist, and the State Conservation Engineer on individual job approval authorities.
Requirements

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:
GS-5
Specialized Experience at the : One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-4 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Assist with assembling complete packages of drawings and specification for jobs;
Assist with the inspection of work under construction; and
Assist with collection of field data. (Must be reflected in resume.)
OR
Education: Must have successfully completed four years of course study leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as those shown above for GS-3 (or equivalent). At least 6 of the 24 semester hours must have been in drafting if the position has been designated by a drafting area of specialization. (You must submit transcripts)
OR
Combination of Education: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and education as described directly above that total 100% when combined. First, determine total qualifying experience as a percentage of the specialized experience described above; then determine the education as a percentage of the graduate education described above; and then add the two percentages. GS -6
Specialized Experience: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Assemble complete packages of drawings and specification for jobs;
Prepare drawings using CADD and manual methods;
Prepare job sheets and designs according to current policy; and
Assist with the documentation of the type, scope, and intensity of field investigation and surveys needed. (Must be reflected in resume.)
OR
Education: Must have successfully completed one full academic year of graduate education in Engineering or other field directly related to the work of the position. (You must submit transcripts)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described directly above that total 100% when combined. First, determine total qualifying experience as a percentage of the specialized experience described above; then determine the education as a percentage of the graduate education described above; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. (Must submit transcripts.)
GS -7
Specialized Experience: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Make or recommends a preliminary selection of appropriate measure alternatives;
Inspect work under construction;
Determine the type, scope, ad intensity of field investigation and surveys needed; and
Designs engineering practices and structures involved in a variety of programs. (Must be reflected in resume.)
OR
Education: Must have successfully completed one full academic year of graduate education in Engineering or other field directly related to the work of the position. (You must submit transcripts)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described directly above that total 100% when combined. First, determine total qualifying experience as a percentage of the specialized experience described above; then determine the education as a percentage of the graduate education described above; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.(Must submit transcripts.)
GS -8
Specialized Experience: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Makes or recommend a preliminary selectin of appropriate measure alternatives;
Directs collection of field data and assures adequacy of collected data;
Work with landowners to determine suitable alternative to solve resource problems;
Guides field office personnel I construction inspections and quality control and;
Provide training in surveying and engineering equipment usage. (Must be reflected in resume.)
OR
Education: Must have successfully completed two full academic years of graduate education in Engineering or other field directly related to the work of the position. (You must submit transcripts)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Must possess a combination of specialized experience and graduate education as described directly above that total 100% when combined. First, determine total qualifying experience as a percentage of the specialized experience described above; then determine the education as a percentage of the graduate education described above; and then add the two percentages. The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Only graduate education in excess of one year (18 semester hours) may be used when combining education and experience for this grade. (Must submit transcripts.)
