You will serve as a Materials Handler in the Supply Management Department of NAVSUP FLEET LOGISTICS CENTER NORFOLK.
Duties
You will receive, unload, and process incoming shipments.
You will receive and check paperwork, printout lists and other documents for content and accuracy and for proper location.
You will maintain and process receipt dues in applicable computerized supply system programs.
You will assist in developing plans to optimize the warehouse receiving and storage processes.
You will select items for shipment or issue and determine the specific dock and hold location most suitable for assembling each shipment.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
- Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
- This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.
- You “may” be coded as “key” and as such may be required to be removed from your military recall status. A signed statement of understanding is required.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift Operator License.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- You may be required to obtain and maintain a government vehicle operator permit.
- You may be required to frequently lift and carry supplies, materials, and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds and may handle heavier items when operating forklift trucks.
Qualifications
Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the duties of a Materials Handler as demonstrated by experience working under normal supervision, receiving, issuing, and storing various types of materials, supplies, and equipment; reading shipping documents; certifying completeness and accuracy of deliveries; checking, counting, inspecting for damage, and identifying materials, verifying against documentation; loading/unloading vehicles; storing items in the correct location; reading and preparing material/inventory documents; using automated warehouse equipment; reading and understanding warehouse plans; operating materials handling equipment/forklift.
