The Public Health Educator is located in at Colorado River Service Unit in Parker, AZ. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive public health education program and will provide public health education services to the community and reports to the Director of Professional Services.

Duties

Assess the health needs of the people and community served by developing programs, materials, and events to teach on health topics. Teach patients how to manage existing health conditions or find health services or information. Evaluate the effectiveness of programs and educational materials to advocate for improved health resources and policies. Provide training programs for community health workers or other health professionals. Collect and analyze data to learn about a particular community and improve programs and services.

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Individual Occupational Requirements BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Degree: Health education, health management, education, sociology, community development, social work, or education psychology.I In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-9: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Experience obtained is in the field of public health education, community organization, or social work performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Planning, implementing, and evaluating a comprehensive public health education program; provided individual, group, and community based health education and activities in Indian health to tribal communities, schools, clinics, and work sites; Developed and maintained a site specific health analysis and tracking systems of health information; Developed and produced a variety of culturally adapted and accessible educational market products to be used by health service units and tribal and community programs; Served in a liaison capacity with Native American communities as well as local, civic, state, national and international agencies concerned with health promotion/disease prevention issues and advocacy; OR Education: Master's degree OR equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree in a related field, at least 1 academic year of the total amount of my graduate study was obtained in a school of public health accredited by the American Public Health Association.; OR Combining education and specialized experience: Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector. Experience obtained is in the field of public health education, community organization, or social work performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Development and provision of formal and informal opportunities (including short and long range health career tracts) for Health Center staff or tribal groups; conducted comprehensive needs assessment and identification of health risk problems of the communities target populations through on-site surveys and other analysis identification tools; led and consulted for demonstration projects of community, inpatient/outpatient and staff programs in all phases of health promotion projects and activities. Maintained information files and a reference library with appropriate literary and audio-visual sources for Native American tribes, Health Centers, and Native Americans in general on general topics.; OR Education: Completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, at least 1 academic year of the total amount of my graduate study was obtained in a school of public health accredited by the American Public Health Association.; OR Combining education and specialized experience: Combination of graduate level education and specialized experience that meets 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
