This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for DIB/MRTFB Positions to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: Services and operates automotive and mobile equipment for completion of maintenance and repairs.
Duties
Replace fluids, change oil or replace filters on vehicles to perform preventative maintenance.
Check vehicle components such as spark plugs, fan belts, tail pipes, hoses and similar items to make adjustments as necessary.
Rotate, replace and repair tube and tubeless tires with plugger or hot or cold patch and balance wheels.
Maintain logs and records of all equipment serviced and work accomplished on a daily report for labor and production reporting purposes.
Prepare requests for material and inventories items on hand.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires a valid, State-issued motor vehicle driver’s license.
- This position requires the successful completion of a pre-employment and annual physical examination thereafter for duration of employment.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Government Forklift Operators Permit to operate forklifts up to and including 6,000 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Mobile Equipment Servicer (Motor Vehicle Operator) ~ without more than normal supervision. Must possess the ability to perform common tasks of servicing and operating automotive and mobile equipment such as automobiles, trucks, buses, or forklifts to perform routine maintenance to prevent mechanical failure, such as maintaining correct fluid levels, checking on wear and tear on equipment parts, maintaining air and water temperatures, replacing filters and changing of oil and grease. Work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical Effort
Work requires standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, bending, and work in awkward positions when changing tires or working in lube pits. There is occasional heavy lifting in the handling of cans or drums of petroleum products and large tires weighing up to 50 pounds. Light to moderate physical effort is required in reaching, bending, turning of moving hands, arms, feet and legs to operate hand and foot controls of vehicles.
Working Conditions
The work is performed either inside or outside, generally inside in areas that are dirty, oily, greasy, with constant exposure to minor cuts, bruises, and burns. Inside work areas are not well heated and outside work involves exposure to various weather conditions.
