About the Position: This position is located in the Army Health Clinic Presidio, Monterey, California. The work involves the provision of sterile medical/dental supplies.

Duties
Receive, disassemble and inspect dental supplies, instruments and equipment and select appropriate method for sterilizing.
Maintain dental equipment in a clean, operative condition to comply with infection prevention techniques and standards.
Prepare and arrange all instruments and materials needed by the Dentist during the patient's treatment.
Conduct periodic inventory of supplies, instruments and equipment and determine re-ordering needs.
Assist Dentist in providing treatment to patients in the dental treatment room, using knowledge of dental instruments, materials, and techniques.
Operate and adjust dental and radiographic equipment.
Test operation of equipment on a daily basis for effectiveness of sterilization.
Operate and maintain water purification/filtration system.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- This position requires the employee to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50lbs.
- Must be certified as a radiographer and have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in 42 CFR Part 75.
- The duties of this position require Drug Testing to meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of Defense Drug Free Workplace Programs

Basic Requirement Dental Sterilization Technician:
This occupation has specific requirements that apply to all positions as follows: Public Law 97-35 requires that persons who administer radiology procedures meet the credentialing standards in 42 CFR Part 75. Essentially, they must (1) have successfully completed an educational program that meets or exceeds the standards described in that regulation and is accredited by an organization recognized by the Department of Education, and(2) be certified as radiographers in their field.
A. Persons employed by the Federal Government as radiology personnel prior to the effective date of the regulation (January 13, 1986) and who show evidence of current or fully satisfactory performance or certification of such from a licensed practitioner such as a Doctor of Medicine, osteopathy, dentistry, podiatry, or chiropractic who prescribes radiology procedures to others.
B. Persons first employed by the Federal Government as radiology personnel after the effective date of the regulation and (a) received training from institutions in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not accredit training in that particular field at the time of graduation, or (b) practiced in a State or foreign jurisdiction that did not license that particular field or did not allow special eligibility to take a license examination for those who did not graduate from an accredited educational program, provided such persons show evidence of training, experience, and competence, as determined by OPM or the employing agency.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing standardized procedures to sterilize equipment, inspecting and removing contamination material from dental instruments, operating dental or radiographic equipment, and assisting dentist to provide treatment to patients.
OR
Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree, with major study or at least 24 semester hours in subjects directly related to the position such as Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Dental Radiology or Sterile Processing. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
