About the Position: This is a Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation) position located in Fort Wainwright, Alaska.

Duties
Maintain the automated database, purge outdated templates, merge templates, input templates, and create schedules.
Review the AUDIOCARE Appointment Reminder System mail messages and cancel appointments.
Define appointment types to aid appointment clerks and clinic staff in correctly booking the patients into appropriate appointment types.
Develop and manage master appointment templates for health care providers and technicians ensuring correct coding and compatibility with existing systems ensuring proper accountability of workload.
Coordinate daily and unexpected changes of provider schedules for patient rescheduling and/or facility cancellations.
Continuously review patient appointment procedures carried out by medical clerks throughout the Medical Treatment Facility to ensure consistency and quality of services and compliance with procedures and operating policies.
Serve as subject matter expert in booking appointments, creation of schedules and templates in Composite Health Care System, and MS Office software programs (WORD, EXCEL and ACCESS).

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing one or more of the following: (1) scheduling or modifying medical appointments, (2) providing medical appointment or schedule procedure information (3) verifying patient's eligibility for care, (4) assisting with assigning patient's exams, or (5) managing individual or group schedules. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business, Communications, Medical Office Administration, Healthcare or Public Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)
Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
