Duties
- Responsible for scheduled and emergency (breakdown) maintenance and modifications of all power producing equipment, station equipment, building/structures, tour facilities and related equipment in the assigned area by integrating and interfacing of professional and production employees, equipment, and contracts with operational systems.
- Develops functional programs to achieve the broad-based objectives established by the overall maintenance program.
- Analyzes objectives, develops plans to accomplish goals, reviews accomplishment toward goals, and establishes work standards and reporting systems to assure standards are obtained.
- Resolves controversial issues and questions which arise during maintenance and modifications including quality control, safety, storage, technical consideration of equipment needs, and overall facility utilization.
- Regularly analyzes the progress of work priorities of jobs and adjusts schedules, work assignments and manpower to meet changing conditions.
Qualifications

To qualify at the GS-13, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to at least the GS-12 level in federal service having demonstrated experience in technical work involved in operating and maintaining a power generating facility (at least 12 MW total capacity) or equivalent industrial, commercial or military facility (such as: planning and scheduling maintenance activities); developing preventative maintenance programs; developing and managing a large-scale maintenance budget; maintenance of pump/generating plant and switchyard equipment; and converting engineering drawings and other technical material into technical written instruction and diagrams. Such experience MUST ALSO INCLUDE supervisory or managerial experience providing administrative, operational, and/or technical direction and oversight to multiple journeyman level trades or crafts positions involved in the maintenance and operations of a large power generating facility (at least 12 MW total capacity) or equivalent industrial, commercial or military facility.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b).
