About the Position: ATAMMC is a 1.2 million square foot medical center with 120 beds and multiple specialty clinics, serving over 75,000 beneficiaries. The Engineering Technician is a member of the Facilities Department which is responsible for maintenance, repair, and construction of utilities and buildings. The applicant will troubleshoot utilities problems and manage building projects start-to-finish with five other Engineering Technicians. Core working hours are 9:00 A.M.-3:00 P.M. M-F.
Duties
Perform planning and estimating for maintenance and repair projects.
Monitor maintenance, inspections, testing and reporting of hospital utility systems in compliance with requirements of The Joint Commission.
Recommend changes to policies and procedures as required.
Manage construction and repair projects from inception to completion.
Review project designs developed by others for completeness and correctness.
Perform troubleshooting of hospital utility architectural systems.
Troubleshoot malfunctioning utilities systems and return to service.
Coordinate utilities work with specialized building systems such as those found in laboratories, research facilities or hospitals.
Write operating or maintenance instructions for equipment.
Communicate verbally and through Microsoft Office Software products.
Use and interpret codes and standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Tier 3 security investigation or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This position requires the incumbent to have tuberculosis testing.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position has been designated Mission Essential. In the event of severe weather conditions or emergency situations (natural or man-made) the incumbent is required to report as scheduled or remain at work to support mission operations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: assisting with engineering design preparation; utilizing fire and life safety codes for facility compliance; and preparing utility system documentation for The Joint Commission compliance. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).
