This position is part of the Energy Information Administration, Department of Energy. As a Supervisory Economist, you will be analyzing, providing advice of economic work involving researching using advance economic theories, concepts, and principles to a variety of circumstances and problems in supervising a team overseeing and directing staff performing mathematical, statistical, economic, and other analytic projects.

- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

- First time supervisors will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period.
- New supervisors are required to complete 80 hours of supervisory training of which 40 hours must be completed during your first year as a supervisor.
- This position is not included in a Bargaining Agreement.
- This position does not support 100% remote work. You will be required to report physically to the official reporting worksite as specified by the supervisor, but no less than 2 days per pay period.
- A preliminary background check must be completed before a new employee can begin work. Current Federal employees or other individuals with an existing completed background investigation may not be required to undergo another background check.
- Hiring incentives may be authorized for a highly qualified candidate based on budget availability and in accordance with federal regulations.
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In addition to meeting the education requirement above, candidates must possess the specialized experience below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 of the 3 of the following:
Providing analyses and advice to internal and external officials on a variety of issues including economic and policy positions on complex matters that have an impact on the agency's mission;
Assessing the quality of results and organizational support for the activities of economics study necessary to create and maintain professionalism and efficacy in the economic field;
Reviewing legislation and regulatory activities related to the industry and assessing the impact on missions, programs, or policies.
Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-15 grade level.
"Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
