About the Position: As regional technical staff Engineer under Pacific Ocean Division (POD), provide advisory services and review of, planning, designs, reports, studies, scope of works, construction methodology, construction submittals, requests for information, etc., prepared by in-house engineering personnel and Architect-Engineer firms for all POD districts to include Honolulu, Japan, Alaska, and Far East Districts.

Duties

Provide technical engineering guidance and advice pertaining to Fire Protection Serve as government's district level technical specialist, resolving problems of a critical or controversial nature pertaining to Fire Protection. This position requires regional level services dealing with regional interface and quality assurance in fire protection engineering and construction functional areas.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Temporary duty (TDY) travel is approximately 15%.
  • This position requires the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a driver's license in one of the 50 US states or possessions and any installation and/or DoD requirement.

Basic Requirement for Fire Protection Engineer:https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0800/files/all-professional-engineering-positions-0800.pdf In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience for GS-12: One year of specialized experience which includes (1) designing Fire Protection systems or reviewing designs, plans, and specifications for Fire Protection systems; (2) conducting pre-design surveys to obtain data for Fire Protection systems; and (3) participating in the testing of Fire Protection systems. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). AND Selective Placement Factor: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment a Fire Protection Engineer license is required. The license must be uploaded with your application package. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Building ConstructionFire EngineeringProblem SolvingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
