About the position: This position will be assigned to the Child Development Center, Beale AFB, CA.
This position is Regular Full-Time, receives benefits and guaranteed 35 hours per week, but could work anywhere between 35-40 hours per week.
Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to and sometimes over 40 pounds.
Duties
Duties include but are not limited to: roasts, broils. bakes, boils, steams, and stews meats, fish, and poultry. Prepares soups, stocks, broths, gravies, sauces, and puddings without the use of packaged mixes. Adjusts standardized recipes for number of servings, performs yield testing. Prepares salads and carves vegetables and fruits for food platters and dishes. Prepares entire meals which requires coordinating the cooking of several items with different cooking times and characteristics. Optimizes use of ingredients, creates minimal food waste. Monitors allergies and ensures food substitutions are offered. Mentors and supports food service workers. Maintains professionalism and works as part of the kitchen team. Ensures kitchen meets sanitary standards and is in compliance with base public health guidance and regulations.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain current record of immunization.
- This position requires regular contact with children under the age of 18 and a favorable fitness determination to do so.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and one every three years thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position requires the incumbent to complete assigned training, to include Food Handlers certification, within specified time from date hire or assignment to position.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
Qualifying Experience:
Must have experience in and knowledge of food preparation principles and characteristics of food, and of planning processes to ensure entire meals are prepared and cooked on time. Must be able to perform yield testing to determine portion cost and to adjust ingredients in standardized recipes. Must have knowledge of procedures to order, issue and store food. Experience and knowledge must have been gained in a grill, snack bar, restaurant, club or similar food activity.

Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
