About the Position: Serves as a Victim Advocate Coordinator providing comprehensive assistance and liaison services to and for victims of spouse abuse and educating personnel on the installation regarding the most effective responses to domestic violence on behalf of victims and at-rick family members.

Duties

Maintain current information on resources and services available to victims and their families. Screen victims of domestic violence to evaluate their needs and provide them with information about safe and confidential ways seek assistance, their rights as spouses and the resources and services available to them. Conduct initial intake services for suspected victims of domestic violence. Report all suspected child abuse or neglect cases and domestic violence cases to appropriate law enforcement and medical treatment facilities and child protection services. Coordinate with case manager in developing appropriate plan of assistance/intervention, which provides for the safety of the victim and their family members.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires regular contact with children under the age 18 and a favorable determination of suitability to do.
  • This position has the requirement for specific initial background checks, investigation, periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination due to having regular contact with children.
  • This position may occasionally require the incumbent to work other than normal duty hours, on-call, or rotational shifts.
  • This position may require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.OR C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) providing services to victims of spouse abuse; 2) educating individuals regarding effective responses to domestic violence; 3) developing appropriate plans of assistance/intervention for victims. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Social Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Interpersonal SkillsTechnical CompetenceWriting Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
