The Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Office (CDAO) mission is to accelerate the adoption of data, analytics, and artificial intelligence (AI) across the Department of Defense (DoD). The CDAO works across the Military Departments and Services, Joint Staff, Combatant Commands (CCMDs), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), and other DoD Components to design, develop, field, and scale technologies, capabilities, strategies, policies, and other guidance related to data, analytics, and AI.

Duties

Serves as a technical subject-matter authority for design, development, and configurations for using DevSecOps and automation techniques and pipelines and offering expertise in capacity planning and risk management. Manages project segments, employing Cloud Engineering and innovative computer science methods for complex processing requirements for building in a multi-cloud, multi-domain environment. Develops and maintains infrastructure as code (IaC), configuration as code (CaC), pipelines, and automation of cloud and Kubernetes services through code, aligning with project goals and continuously improving processes. Collaborates with other divisions to integrate emerging technologies such as platforms, AI/ML tools, and data capabilities to ensure infrastructure aligns with CDAO and DoD Directives.

  • This position may require occasional travel away from your normal duty station for official business on military or commercial aircraft.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below. Basic Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees and course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions. Qualifying Experience: To qualify at the GG-14, your resume must describe at least one year of experience that demonstrates the competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Experience refers to any paid or unpaid experience, including volunteer work and Military service, that would be considered equivalent to work normally performed at the next lower grade level in the federal service. For this position, qualifying experience is defined as: Experience in 1) Applying advanced engineering theories to provide expert advice to senior colleagues and Agency officials, innovating within broad program operations and executing significant projects; 2) Possessing comprehensive mastery of cloud engineering, including frameworks, policies, architecture, and configuration, alongside industry best practices; 3) Developing new approaches for solving highly complex engineering problems and exhibiting the ability to extend and modify existing techniques; and 4) Producing authoritative reports and briefings tailored to organizational needs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Candidates must describe how they meet the qualifying experience and/or selective placement factor(s) within the body of their resume. All qualifications must be met at the closing date of this announcement.

Education

There is no substitution of education for the qualifying experience at the GG-14 grade level.

To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. You must report only attendance and/or degrees from schools accredited by accrediting institutions that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education .
