This position is located on the Pike and San Isabel National Forest, San Carlos Ranger District in Rye, CO. This position is located on a Forest Service unit and has responsibility for on-the-ground management of the OHV program and assists with administration of a variety of special use permits. Duties

Assists in the development and the accomplishment of the district’s OHV program within the framework of existing planning documents. Patrols off-highway vehicles (OHV) use areas to ensure areas are operated, used and maintained in accordance with the recreation plan and other appropriate planning documents. Coordinates and develops a recreation plan for developed and dispersed recreation sites. Implements and manages the unit’s OHV recreation program, including but not limited to, identifying and conducting maintenance and reconstruction of OHV routes. Works with others in the development of budget data for the new and developed recreation sites and trails for OHVs. Monitors, inspects, and reports on contracted operations for compliance with contract provisions. Operates and maintains, in safe working order, assigned vehicles, motorcycles and ATV and trail maintenance equipment and specialized equipment used. Assists with the enforcement of Off-Road-Vehicle (ORV) restrictions, including maintenance and posting of regulatory signs and enforcement of restrictions. Provides public information and interpretive services, including detailed information concerning recreational opportunities. Responsible for preparation and administration of recreation event special use permits. Confers with supervisor before, soliciting volunteers for recreation activities, services, or events. Implements and manages recreation operation and maintenance plans for developed and dispersed recreation sites. Conducts Limits of Acceptable Change (LAC) studies, interpreting findings, making recommendations, and suggesting alternative methods for meeting objectives and complying with policies.

Requirements

Provide course descriptions as necessary. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-07: You must have one year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as: assisted in the development of an Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) program; Patrolled OHV use areas to ensure areas are operated, used, and maintained in accordance with the recreation plan; Assisted specialists in the management of the unit's OHV recreation program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
