Duties

The primary duties of this position are: Installs maintains, tests, calibrates, aligns, modifies, overhauls, troubleshoots, and repairs a variety of complex electronic and electro-mechanical equipment, optical, and electro-optical such as fixed and mobile voice and data communication equipment, surveillance equipment, generators, power transformers, power circuit breakers, instrument transformers, electronic voltage regulation, supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) system equipment, power system stabilizers, data logging and control equipment, sound systems, telemeter, flow meter, protective relay, electronic relays, revenue meters, and sophisticated panel board indicate meters and recorders, fiber optic cables, high speed data cable, and uninterruptible power systems. Performs microprocessor based programming, i.e. solid-state devices, sonic liquid level devices. Uses various analog and digital test equipment such as ohmmeters, ammeters, voltmeters, watt meter, transistor testers, oscilloscopes, signal generators, frequency meters, logic analyzers, communications test sets, spectrum analyzers, time domain reflectometers, high speed communications test equipment, pc-based test equipment. Installs and maintains a variety of radio communications equipment. This includes VHF and UHF Base Stations, mobile radios, microwave radio equipment, radio towers, antenna systems, and telephone equipment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Time-In-Grade: Current career or career-conditional employees of the Federal government, or former career or career-conditional employees, who have a break in service of less than one year, are required to meet the time-in-grade restriction of one year of Federal experience at the next lower-grade, with few exceptions outlined in 5 CFR 300.603(b). You must meet all Eligibility and Qualification requirements, including time-in-grade restrictions and any selective placement factors if applicable, by 06/05/2024.
