About the Position: This position is with the Army Reserve Aviation Command, Aviation Support Facility Knox East located at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Duties
Operates as Pilot in Command of heavy single or multi-engine airplanes and/or single and multi-engine helicopters
Assist Aviation Support Facility supervisors in all phases of operation
Establish and maintain a flight program for the Army Reserve Aviation Command
Provides aircraft qualification training to newly assigned pilots and maintains individual aircrew training records.
Instruct and evaluate rated pilots in basic and advanced flight procedures and maneuvers
Responsible for managing safety programs
Monitor flight and ground operations for unsafe practices and procedures
Resolve conflicts that arise to accomplish mission
Requirements
- This position requires an annual physical examination.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must possess a current first class medical certificate in accordance with FAA regulations at the time of appointment.
- This position is subject to Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
- Must be C-12 qualified and/or military equivalent.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience.
Basic Requirement: Possession of the appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates, and/or military rating, meeting the applicable flight hour requirements, and possession of the knowledge and skills required for the position. Flight hours MUST BE in the body of the resume. Your application packet MUST include a copy of certificates/military ratings.
Flight hour requirements:
Total flight time - 1500 hours (Current federal employees may waive up to ¼ total flight time.)
Multi-engine Airplane - 500 hours
Pilot in Command - 250 hours
Night flying - 75 hours (Current federal employees may waive up to 25 night flying hours.)
Flying Time, Last 12 months - 100 hours (Current federal employees may waive up to ½ the flight hours required within the last 12 months.)

Specialized Experience: Must possess one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 grade level. Specialized experience includes: performing various aviator duties, such as Pilot, Copilot, Pilot in Command (PI), Instructor Pilot (IP), Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP), Instrument Flight Examiner (IE), Maintenance Test Pilot (MO), or Maintenance Test Pilot Examiner (ME); performing as a pilot and copilot of fixed wing aircraft, helicopter, multiengine airplanes; instructing and evaluating pilots in basic and advanced flight procedures and maneuvers; planning, analyzing, or administering agency aviation programs; planning and developing flight operations and aviation training activities; and resolving conflicts as they arise to accomplish objectives.
